I have lived in my town in Westchester, NY for almost 8 years and it was not until I was this many days old that I knew there was a luxury clothing consignment boutique 15 minutes away. I had no idea that Sweet Preserves, this jewel box of a shop, was tucked away within a home consignment store called Consign It On Main. Both of these establishments are meticulously curated. The unique upscale previously owned inventory has been well preserved and cared for. It makes for a treasure trove of eye candy as well as serious collecting.
As I walked through the space, crowded with statement pieces for fancier homes than mine, I casually glanced at my surroundings as I was there mainly to browse out of curiosity. I kept my eyes open for wall hangings and small decorative items which would be more likely for me to purchase on a return visit.
Like an unexpected pot of gold at the end of a rainbow I found myself staring into several china cabinets. Housed behind their protective glass were glittering baubles, vintage purses, belts and small accessories from luxury labels. This is how I stumbled upon Sweet Preserves with its high end designer jewelry, clothing, shoes, belts, bags and scarves. I admit there was an instant pheromone boost from the excitement of this unexpected discovery! I slowly and methodically made my way around the racks and shelves. Some finds: a pair of black satin Chanel mary janes (pictured below), Fendi bags, French couture suits, Hermès scarves and more all available on Main Street in downtown New Rochelle, New York.
Amy Lazarus Coleman, the proprietor, was friendly and knowledgeable as I asked questions and inquired more about her business. She informed me that what we see in her shop is edited to be seasonal. She has a basement full of off season items in stock and new inventory all the time. If you need something in particular she can source items from her various contacts from all over the world and will rent as well as sell. She works with costumers and private collectors as well as folks who walk into her store off the street.
