Get ready for sunnier days ahead!

Are you escaping the cold and headed somewhere warm for some well deserved R&R? My family and I recently returned from a trip to Hawaii which was AMAZING. Honestly, if you can’t have a good time in Hawaii you must be trapped in the storyline from White Lotus, but I digress. The reason I am writing this blog entry is that none of my daughter’s summer clothes fit her anymore. My mother must have been right. All those pesky pre-K illnesses accompanied by the low-grade fever must have made her grow taller. My mother does not have a medical degree but she has a lot of these wise gems to share.

Anyway, I wanted a one stop shop to create a capsule collection for our week long trip. Time was of the essence and my daughter also needed some transitional clothes for spring. H&M to the rescue! Here I found 3 pairs of lightweight skinny jeggings (perfect for the ever growing child), dresses that are cute but not too babyish (“I’m 4. I’m not a baby!”), jorts (because, yes, they are durable and go with everything), a pair of stretch flare denim look jeggings (bell bottoms, need I say more?), an adorable soft snap cardigan with ruffles for AC and cooler temps and even a short sleeved pajama set with pull on shorts (essential when you have a child that cannot go to sleep without a minimum of 4 blankets). This 14 item order (15 if you count the pajamas as 2 pieces) came in well under $150. Me and my little fashion editor were thrilled with our last minute haul. What is a “dress casual” shoes? It’s a shoe that you would wear when you want to convey a relaxed upscale look for the office - khakis, anyone? - or date night at a nice restaurant where there are linen napkins and valet parking. You may wear them without socks, or as I recommend, hidden socks - get the look without the discomfort! They are not usually tie shoes but more of a loafer aesthetic. An unfussy style, they ooze OOO (checking a message occasionally). Conversely, you can achieve a dress casual look with a sneaker if the sneaker is less athletic and more shoe-like which usually means a more streamlined sleek look. Both of these are staples that will serve any wardrobe well.
